Positioning for Growth: A Strategic Review of Life Sciences Queensland
The Client
Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ) is the peak industry body for Queensland’s life sciences sector, representing organisations across biotech, medtech, agtech, pharmaceuticals, and industrial life sciences. LSQ connects research, industry, and government to drive innovation, investment, and sector growth across the state.
The Challenge
LSQ engaged Intellect Labs to support a comprehensive strategic review to clarify its long-term direction, value proposition, and operating model. With Queensland’s life sciences sector growing in scale and complexity, the LSQ Board recognised the need to evaluate how the organisation could evolve to deliver greater value to its members and deepen its role as a trusted voice in the innovation ecosystem.
The Solution
We partnered with LSQ to deliver a structured, evidence-based review designed to generate insight, build alignment, and identify practical opportunities for growth and improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement - LSQ conducted a targeted member survey and facilitated one-on-one consultations with industry leaders, researchers, and government stakeholders to surface shared priorities and unmet needs.
Ecosystem Analysis - We mapped the Queensland life sciences ecosystem by subsector, geography, and capability area. This analysis identified gaps in engagement, under-represented sectors, and potential growth markets, providing a clearer view of LSQ’s current position and future opportunity.
Operational Review - We assessed LSQ’s programs, services, membership model and internal capacity. The aim was to align effort with impact and ensure the organisation’s structure was fit-for-purpose.
Strategic Roadmap - We assisted in the development of short-term and long-term paths forward, organised around core pillars of activity.
Financial Modelling - Our team assisted to model funding and membership scenarios to support LSQ’s sustainability goals.
The Result
The review was endorsed by the LSQ Board and now serves as the foundation for the organisation’s future direction. You can read a copy of the report here. Outcomes included:
A deeper understanding of Queensland’s life sciences landscape
Evidence-based recommendations to strengthen member value
A roadmap for building influence, diversifying income, and deepening impact
The strategy has positioned LSQ to play a more proactive role in shaping the future of Queensland’s life sciences ecosystem, and to better serve its members as a high-value, high-impact industry body.
